Topic: Demystifying the Applications of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Civil Infrastructure Asset Monitoring

Speaker: Surya S. C. Congress, Ph.D., A.M. ASCE, Managing Director - NSF Industry University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) Site at TAMU 

Dr. Surya S. C. Congress is a Senior Research Engineer in Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Texas A&M Transportation Institute, at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. He is also an FAA-certified drone pilot. His areas of research interest include sustainable and resilient infrastructure designs and smart monitoring technologies. He is currently serving as PI and Co-PI on Federal and State-funded research projects focused on infrastructure asset management. The research theme of those projects includes monitoring the health condition of various civil infrastructure assets including pavements, railways, bridges, airports, embankments, slopes, towers, and dams using drones. He uses multi-disciplinary concepts such as photogrammetry, artificial intelligence, and machine learning (AI-ML) techniques to provide efficient solutions for infrastructure monitoring. He delivered many invited lectures including ISSMGE's Bright Spark Keynote Lecture at an international conference in Cairo, Egypt. He is also a young member of two national academy’s Transportation Research Board Geotechnical Committees AKG 50 & AKG 60.

 


 

STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING INSTITUTE SESSION

Topic: CTA RPM – Open Deck Steel Superstructure Modelling

Speaker: Seng Sok, P.E. with Stantec

 Seng Sok, P.E. is a structural engineer at Stantec with over 7 years of experience in designing highway bridges in Texas, Alabama and North Carolina. He has worked on three design-build projects with experience in the proposal, design, and construction phases. He also got an opportunity to work on Chicago Transit Authority – Red Purple Modernization Project designing wayside platforms, checking existing retaining wall, and modelling existing rail structure for retrofit and proposed superstructure transition.
Seng graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 2013 and a Master of Science degree in 2017 from University of Houston.
