Texas Section Update

As we begin to celebrate our centennial year of the Texas Section of ASCE, we would like to focus on Government involvement for the month of January.  This is a timely subject as the State of Texas has recently release its infrastructure report card.  This is the second update the state has released since creating an infrastructure report card in 2004.  Texas infrastructure received an overall grade of “C” which is an improvement from the rating of “C-“received in the 2008 report.  The state has seen improvements in areas such as transit, navigable waterways, solid waste handling, and flood control.

As a response to the national infrastructure report card, ASCE has released a series of Failure to Act economic reports.  These reports show the economic consequences of not investing into the country’s current and future infrastructure needs.  There are currently four reports detailing the nations electric, water, wastewater, and transportation needs.  These documents help reinforce the need for reinvestment into our nation’s aging infrastructure.  Attached is a link to the Failure to Act reports.  I would encourage each of you to take a look at these as we focus on our infrastructure this month. http://www.asce.org/failuretoact/

Each municipality represented by the Dallas branch of ASCE has been invited to participate in our centennial year celebrations and to provide a proclamation stating the year of 2013 as the ASCE Texas Section Centennial Celebration. Throughout the month of January each participating local government will sign the proclamation in public meeting. Please show you’re support of our community by representing the Dallas Branch of ASCE at the signing of a participating local municipality proclamation. Dates and locations will be provided as they are determined.
