President's Message - August 2021
Howdy ASCE Dallas Branch Members! I hope you all are staying cool and well hydrated as we enter the dog days of summer here in Texas. I am excited to announce that this month we will officially be making the return to in-person Branch Luncheons on Monday, August 9th! It has been a long and complicated journey since we last met together in-person as a Branch in early March of 2020. However, I think our Branch leadership has done a tremendous job of navigating our Branch through these times while continuing to provide valuable virtual programing, volunteer events, and a wide range of technical presentations that help our licensed PEs maintain their certifications! I would like to specifically recognize Julie Jones, our current ASCE Dallas Branch Past-President, for her steady leadership and forward-thinking vision to guide our Branch into the necessary virtual formatting in April 2020 and for continuing to provide valuable insight as we transition back to in-person events. Chad Ostrander, our Fundraising Chair, also deserves a large amount of praise for stepping up last year to help record, edit, and produce all of our virtual Branch meeting presentations along with the help of Carlos Balderrama, our Programs Chair. It was a team effort all around to keep our Branch afloat over the past year and more, but these individuals certainly deserve to be recognized for going above and beyond! I will personally not be able to make the in-person meeting on August 9th due to an annual family reunion, but Ed Penton, the Dallas Branch President Elect, will do a wonderful job as acting President this month! Also, please SAVE THE DATE for Monday, October 11th! We will be moving our typical monthly Branch meeting to the evening on that day and turning the event into a special awards banquet to recognize all our Branch award winners and Life Members over the past two years! You can read more about this special event further down in the newsletter! As a reminder, the Dallas Branch Officer and Committee Chair nominations are also currently open! If you are interested in joining the leadership team with ASCE Dallas, please check out the nomination form linked HERE. We are always looking for fresh perspectives and new ideas to make our Branch better than ever! Also, don’t forget to register for our Dallas Branch Golf Tournament on Monday, October 4th at the Texas Rangers Golf Club benefitting our G.B. Mann Scholarship Fund. You can register for the tournament HERE. A special thanks goes out to our Golf Tournament Title Sponsor: Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS)! As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am here to serve you as your Dallas Branch President, and my virtual “door” is always open. -Jonathan Brower, P.E.
