Mr. Subal Sarkar, P.E., is a principal geotechnical engineer and Texas-Oklahoma tunnel practice leader with URS Corp in Dallas. He has over four decades of experience in geotechnical engineering and tunneling in the US and abroad. In the past, Mr. Sarkar held a position of senior vice president with a geotechnical and tunneling instrumentation company and an assistant vice president with one of the country’s major AE firms. He has served as geotechnical and tunneling manager or lead engineer on a number of very complex tunneling and underground engineering projects, primarily involving transit systems and highways with construction costs ranging from more than one billion to seven billion dollars. These projects were in various major cities among them are New York City, Baltimore, Washington D.C and Singapore.

Mr. Sarkar is a life member of ASCE and is currently serving in the ASCE Committee on Accreditation, a national policy level committee on all levels of architectural engineering, civil engineering and construction engineering educational curriculum and accreditation. He is also an Executive Committee Member of the ABET’s Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission. Mr. Sarkar has authored or coauthored numerous technical papers on geotechnical engineering and tunneling and presented these papers in US and international conferences.
