President's Message - April 2021

Julie Jones

Howdy ASCE Dallas Branch Members!

I hope y’all are enjoying the beginning of spring. It’s a little hard to believe but as we enter the month of April 2021, it will have been a full calendar year since we held our first virtual ASCE Dallas Branch meeting. While it certainly is not the same as our in-person Branch meetings, I think our Programs Committee led by Nancy Cline and Carlos Balderrama has done a fantastic job providing interesting topics and engaging speakers for our members. Our Younger Members have also started a fantastic new program called “The Bridge”. If you have missed any of the sessions, you can catch up via the links below from our YouTube Channel:

We also recently settled on a date and location for our ASCE Dallas Branch Golf Tournament! On Monday, October 4th the Texas Rangers Golf Club will be hosting this fun event that benefits our G.B. Mann Scholarship Fund. Please SAVE THE DATE, and watch out for info in the coming months on how you can register your team or become a tournament sponsor. A special thanks goes out to our Golf Tournament Title Sponsor: Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS)!

Next month with be Younger Member Month within the Dallas Branch, and this means that our YM Committee will be taking over all aspects of the Branch activities next month. Our Branch Director, Nick Phillips, will be writing next month’s President’s Message, running our Board Meeting, and giving the monthly announcements at our Branch meeting. Please be sure to encourage and support our YMs next month – I know they are going to do a great job!

Finally, thank you to all our members who watched our February virtual meeting and donated $10 for their PDH certificates. From these PDH certificate proceeds, we were able to donate $1,042.50 each to the G.B. Mann Scholarship Fund and OurCalling. This month, we will be splitting the proceeds from our PDH certificates evenly between the ASCE Dallas G.B. Mann Scholarship and the Engineers Without Borders Bolivia Project.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am here to serve you as your Dallas Branch President, and my virtual “door” is always open.
