The Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD Newman Smith High School Engineering Pathways has 12 students looking for help placing students shadowing professional engineers for an upcoming “Shadow Day”.

PROGRAM PURPOSE:

The purpose is to allow a student in the Science/Engineering Pathway Program to experience firsthand what is involved in a particular field of engineering.  The students later report about their experience to the rest of the Engineering Pathway students.  The business partner has an opportunity to also share the corporate skills, knowledge, and attitudes thatare needed to be successful in the workplace.

DESIGN:

  • The student “shadows” the business partner at his/her company for half-a-day (at least 6 hours) to learn about a particular field of engineering.

IMPLEMENTATION:

  • The business determines which employee would like to participate and notifies Ms. Cheatham (see below).
  • The student signs a contract that includes expectations of professional behavior and dress.

REQUESTED SHADOW PARTNERS:

  • Architectural engineering - 1 request
  • Chemical engineering - 1 request
  • Any discipline of  engineering – 10 requests
