Dear Dallas Branch Members:

It is hard to believe it is actually 2020!  I hope you each had a great Christmas and New Year.  Thank you to Quinn Spann and all those who donated to Denton State Supported Living Center through the Christmas is for Caring fundraising drive. Our members donated $4,336 to provide items to adults in need.

Congratulations to Dallas Branch and the entire 2018-2019 Board and Leadership team for the distinctive honor conferred by the ASCE Global Leader Training Committee as Outstanding Section and Branch Award for Large Sections and Branches, for the third year in a row! This award will be formally presented at the 2020 Regions 3, 6, and 7 Multi-Region Leadership Conference. The Dallas Branch will have representatives in attendance to receive the award, but the ASCE Virtual Recognition Award is on the website.  This is a great honor, we are in good company with the other awardees listed below:

Small Section/Branch:  Truckee Meadows Branch

Medium Section/Branch: Nashville Branch

Large Section/Branch:  Dallas Branch and Pittsburgh Section, co-winners

Very Large Section/Branch:  Metropolitan Section

For the upcoming January 13th meeting we’ll have Rocky Vaz, Director of the Office of Emergency Management for the City of Dallas speaking on the Dallas Tornado Overview from this past October.  We will have our two technical presentations scheduled around our main lunch meeting for January. Our AM technical session, led by the Geo-Institute (GI), will be given by Ihab Allam, PE on Austin Block 185 Slurry Wall Project.  Our PM technical session, led by the Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI), will be given by Christi Upton on Denton's Program to Protect Environmentally Sensitive Areas.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the January meeting!

Yours in service,

Julie A. Jones, PE, CFM

President
