President's Message - November 2019

Jennifer Smith

We have started another year as the Dallas Branch.  I wanted to thank all of those who served this past year as board members, committees chairs, and volunteers.  Without you the Branch cannot do all that we have done, and you make my job a lot easier as president.  I know I have been involved for a while here, but I have been involved in ASCE since college at University of Arkansas.  I was president of the University of Arkansas chapter my senior year, and have been involved in the Dallas Branch since then.

For our November 11th meeting we will have the Dallas Post members of the Society of American Military Engineers join us.  Our main luncheon speaker will be Craig Hall, PE, GE, and Principal Geotechnical Engineer at GEI Consultants.  He will be presenting on the Oroville Dam Failure.

We will have our two technical presentations scheduled around our main lunch meeting for November.   Our AM technical session, led by the Construction Institute (CI), will be given by Joel R. Clark, P.E., who is the Senior Engineer at Hayward Baker.  This presentation will be on Soil nail walls at the new Texas Rangers Globe Life Field in Arlington.  Our PM technical session, led by the Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI), will be given by Peter Kau on “Transporting superheavy loads. But crossing a bridge?”.

We are still looking for several committee positions.  If you have any interest in helping the Dallas Branch, please contact me for information on available positions.  I can be reached at [email protected]

Yours in service,

Julie A. Jones, PE (TX), CFM
