CE Club October 2019 Update

A brand-new year in the partnership between the Dallas chapter of ASCE and Woodrow Wilson High School was kicked off this past September 30th.  ASCE Champion Carlos Leyva introduced himself to the two High School classes with a short biographical presentation, before WWHS alumnus and SMU civil engineering junior Estevan Zarate gave the students a snapshot of life as an engineering student.  Estevan also described SMU’s civil engineering curriculum, the program’s various offerings, and the transition from student life at Woodrow Wilson to an engineering school.

After the presentations, Estevan prepared a friendly competition of marshmallow-and-spaghetti towers, where the team with the tallest structure would win bragging rights. After a final, short round of questions to the presenters, the class was adjourned.

Class visits are scheduled every three weeks, with presenters varying from local civil engineering students to practicing civil engineers and subject matter experts.
