Hello Dallas ASCE!

Did you notice the headshot provided with this President’s Message differs from the bearded man you are used to seeing? That is because this month is the Dallas ASCE Younger Member Month where younger members are delegated the tasks to run the lunch meeting! Members who are 35 years of age or under are encouraged to step up and lead our members in another educational networking event featuring a great lunch followed by satisfying deserts. This is an opportunity for younger members to learn about available leadership positions.

What better way is there to utilize your leadership skills and wit than by trapping yourself in a room with your fellow Dallas ASCE Younger Members with the intent to escape? Our YM chairs have planned an exciting escape room event for our May YM event, and we hope to see you there! Come have fun and learn how you can get more involved in Dallas ASCE.

At the May month luncheon, we are looking forward to hearing about updates at North Texas Tollway Authority from Elizabeth Mow, Executive Director of Infrastructure for NTTA during lunch. We also have more great technical presentations this month – the morning session we’ll have Xinbao (Paul) Yu, Ph.D P.E. representing the GI and presenting on “Research Innovations for Sustainable and Resilient Geotechnical Engineering”. In the afternoon, we have Ahmed Valdez, P.E. representing SEI and presenting on “Ship Channel Bridge”.

We’ve already received a handful of G.B. Mann Scholarship applications and will begin reviewing them in the next few months to select hard-working graduating seniors that are well deserving of a Dallas ASCE scholarship. As always, remember to bring some cash so you can participate in the 50/50 raffle that benefits our scholarship fund for next year!

See you May 13, 2019 at The Vouv!
