President's Message - April 2019

Anthony Luce

Dear Dallas Branch Members:

Thank you to all those interested members that attended the City of Dallas Mayoral Candidate Infrastructure Debate that occurred on March 26.  A big thank you to Dallas May for spearheading the effort to set up this event and thank you also to Sean Merrell and Julie Jones for Emceeing the event.  I was not personally able to attend that night, but from the people that I talked with, the event was well received and impressed those in attendance by how well many of the candidates understood the infrastructure issues facing our City.

I want to take a moment to promote one of the Texas Section events that involves and benefits college students, and that event is the annual Texas Section Student Symposium that will be held April 10th – April 13 by the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley.  The event will take place on South Padre Island.  This Symposium includes the annual concrete canoe competition for the universities as well as many training, networking, and career workshops for the students that attend.  More information can be found at

Please be on the lookout for volunteer requests for Earth Day events in April and for Infrastructure Week in May.  These events always need help and support from our members, so please sign up to help out on these outreach events within the community. Additional information will be forthcoming for the Earth Day events and more information about National Infrastructure Week can be found at

This month, our ASCE Dallas Branch meeting will be on Monday, April 8th.  We will be learning about “TEX Rail Construction” by our presenter Richey Thompson, PE the Chief Engineer for Trinity Metro.   In lieu of a morning technical session, we will be hosting the UTA Chapter of Chi Epsilon for their Spring 2019 Initiation Ceremony.  The afternoon Technical Session will be conducted by the Construction Institute (CI) with a title of “Construction Engineering and Inspection: A Refresher Course” with Athar Saeed, PhD, PE as the presenter.

Please join us to listen to the wonderful presenters and their interesting topics.  We look forward to seeing you on the 11th

Lastly, I want to make you all aware of one of our well respected ASCE Dallas Members that passed away, Richard Carson passed on March 20th.  Additional information about Richard’s passing can be found at
