Anthony Luce

Well, I can’t believe that we have arrived at a new Branch year already.  I want to take this chance to again thank our 2017-2018 Branch President Mark Boyd for leading us over the past year and setting a high bar for me to attempt to meet this year.  Also, thanks again to the 2017-2018 board members, committee chairs, committee members, and all other volunteers.  Without all of their support and efforts, the Branch would not function at the high level we are accustomed to.

I am excited and proud to be serving as your Branch President for the 2018-2019 year.  I have been involved in ASCE for much of my professional career since graduating from Texas A&M with my bachelor’s degree in 2005 and master’s degree in 2006.  I volunteered for 3 years in the Houston Branch prior to moving to North Texas and have been continuously serving the Dallas Branch for over 6 years in various committee and board positions.  I hope to continue the excellent programs that previous years have brought about as well as start some new things and put my own stamp on some of our ongoing programs in the coming year.

Our November 12th meeting will, as usual, take place at the Vouv Event Space.  Our main luncheon speaker will be Ms. Alberta Blair, PE, Director of Public Works for Dallas County.  Her presentation topic is still TBD, but I am sure with all that is going on in and around Dallas County, it will be a discussion that you don’t want to miss.

We will have our two technical presentation scheduled around our main lunch meeting for November also.   Our AM technical session, led by the Geo-Institute (GI), will be given by Dr. Pavana Vennapusa.  His presentation is entitled “Mechanistic Pavement Foundation Construction Quality Assurance and Process Control.”  Our PM technical session, lea by the Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), will be given by Dr. Roman Okelo.  Dr. Okelo’s prentation will be on “Behavior and Rehabilitation of Industrial Steel Stacks (Chimneys).”

In addition, many of you have seen our call for volunteers for the current year.  We are still looking for several committee positions.  If you have any interest in helping the Dallas Branch make a difference in our community and within the profession, please contact me for information on available positions.  I can be reached at [email protected]

I will bring this introductory message to a close.  As I mentioned before, I am honored, excited, and proud to serve as your Branch President this year.  I look forward to seeing everyone at the November monthly luncheon.  If you have any questions or comments on how we can improve your member experience, please contact me or any of our wonderful board or committee members.
