President's Message - November 2013

I’m very excited to be writing my first message as your Branch President for 2013-2014. I feel honored to be serving as the Branch President as we finish out the Centennial Year and as we start the next century of ASCE in Texas. We have a great group of officers and committee chairs who are just as committed as I am to making this next year one to remember. We have made it our goal to provide as many opportunities for our members to get involved this year. For more details on these opportunities, check our website.

We continue our commitment to offer great luncheon topics and technical seminars. November’s theme is community service, so we will are having our own Jack Furlong and Colin Blankenship present the progress of the ASCE Centennial Habitat for Humanity House. This will also be a joint meeting with the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). We are honored that they have chosen to join us on Veterans Day. Please come ready to say thanks to those who have sacrificed so much to serve our country.

We are planning to continue with many of the events that we have done in the past, including the Future City Competition, MathCounts, Engineering Clubs, scholarships, the golf tournament, etc. We also have some new things coming this year. First, since the golf tournament is being hosted by the Fort Worth Branch this year, we are planning to host a signature fundraising event for scholarships. We are also going to make some changes to our website which will make it even more user-friendly. In addition, several local Institute chapters were formed last year, and they will be beginning their first year in operation this year. These are just a few of the things that we are planning this coming year to maximize benefits to our members. I encourage and challenge every member to participate in as many activities as possible this year and get the second century of ASCE started off on the right foot!

I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on Monday, November 11, 2013.
