Future Cities Competition 2020 at UTA

January 25, 2020 marked an incredible day for students all over the state of Texas – it was a fierce competition to design the best Future City in the world. The Future City Competition was hosted at UTA in Nedderman Hall where professionals in the field gathered around to judge over 70 student projects from middle schoolers in grades 6 through 8.  " This year's challenge asks participants to identify an urban water system threat and then imagine, research, design and build a futuristic solution to ensure a reliable supply of clean water for their future city. " ASCE had a special award to give: 2020 Infrastructure Resilience – the city that could best showcase defenses for natural disasters. The Dallas Branch of ASCE selectred “Monet City” from Scoggins Middle School – Frisco ISD – for their creative use of ocean wave dampeners, algae farms, oscillating structure designs, and underground utility protection ideas to mitigate risks during natural disasters and ensuring infrastructure resiliency. Congrats to the team from Scoggins Middle School! We hope to see your team next year!

Thanks so much to the firms and people who supported ASCE in this endeavor
