August 2013 Main Speaker

Speaker: Mansoor Ahsan, P.E.
 Topic: Loop 12 / SH 114 Interchange
*Register for the August 12th Meeting*

With over 27 years of award-winning structural design and construction experience in transportation, light and heavy rail, Mansoor has become a leading voice in the transportation industry for projects with alternate delivery. He is experienced in managing multiple concurrent work authorizations and is a skilled Quality Control/Quality Assurance engineer with an eye on providing solutions to construction problems. His innovations for design, scheduling and construction methodology have saved project owners hundreds of millions of dollars. His hands-on style and detail oriented nature have produced several award-winning, error free design plans throughout the U.S. Mansoor has developed innovative practice methods that allow him and his team to oversee the progress and quality of projects with the absolute minimum amount of distraction to the production teams.

Recently here in the DFW Metroplex, Mansoor has had the privilege of leading the Bridgefarmer engineers in the design of four monumental mega-projects:

  • The DART Orange Line Extension from Bachman Station to DFW International Airport;

  • The DFW Connector (areas 1-3);

  • The LBJ Managed Lanes, and

  • The Loop 12 / SH 114 Interchange, which was Phase I of the future Diamond Interchange straddling the border of Dallas and Irving.

The first three of these projects are Design-Build delivery and are still under construction. The Loop 12 / SH 114 Interchange was completed last year and earned Bridgefarmer & Associates, Inc. the “2013 Engineering Excellence Award Gold Medal in Transportation” from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Texas and  a National Recognition Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies “Engineering Excellence Awards.”

Mansoor’s presentation for the August Meeting of the Dallas Branch of ASCE will focus on the latter project, the Loop 12 / SH 114 Interchange and the innovations that allowed two separate projects (the highway interchange and the DART Orange Line) to be constructed simultaneously within the same limited right of way.

Mansoor prepared for his career in design at University of Illinois and graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where he studied structural engineering and later the master in management program with various schools of management including Harvard business school. During his early years, he designed highway and railroad bridges in Illinois, Michigan, Florida and Washington, ultimately becoming registered as a civil engineer in 11 U.S. states.

Upon joining Bridgefarmer, among his first projects were:

  • a 16’ deep thru plate girder triple ply railroad bridge replacement for the I-40 Crosstown Expressway in Oklahoma City, which earned Bridgefarmer the “2008 Engineering Excellence Award Gold Medal in Transportation” from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Texas and saved the Oklahoma Department of Transportation millions of dollars;

  • Project Manager of Independent Quality Assurance for SH 130 in central Texas, the first ever Design-Build project contracted by the Texas Department of Transportation.
